Community & Art

I'm awful at updating this blog, and I never know whether I should write posts for readers or other authors. I'm writing this one because I have some artwork I would like to share, and because I have been trying quite hard to build a community for my readers. As well as trying to post more here and on my Instagram, I have a Discord server.

There are channels there for loads of things such as sharing books you enjoy, and I also share things and talk about my own work.

The theories and ideas channel has some of the ideas people have mentioned in comments, and I've used spoiler tags so you can see my answers to them if you want.

There are silly things like memes me and other members have found that relate to the books:

I also share my world building stuff there a little more than Instagram, including things like medieval recipes I've made, relevant pictures/artwork I have done based on books and characters, and research I've done:

And there are some silly things like computer backgrounds I've made based on my books which can be downloaded:

I feel really lame for writing this. I'm extremely grateful to the people who are in the group at the moment, but they are all friends who read my work and I don't know whether anybody else would be interested in joining or if it's just a little weird of me to have this server. I mainly made it because I really enjoy sharing the weird things I have done/made but it's a bit overwhelming to dump it all on Instagram. My other author friends have servers so I figured I would make one, too. If you did want to join that there's a link at the top of the website ('discord group') or you can join here. Aside from that I have had some of my Dream Mate pictures printed because they will be displayed in an art gallery soon. This is the Purple Flowers image:

The series represents the Dreamscape, and the way Sienna begins to realize it is not perfect.

The first images in the series show a beautiful fantasy world:

The series progresses to images of flowers - things are subtly 'wrong' and less perfect in those.

In the purple image I had printed you can see the cracks are beginning to show, but there are others such as this one where things are becoming more unsettling:

The colours are less natural, and there are things going on in the background that can't be ignored.

One of the final images in the series is this one:

The floral motif is still there as the focus of the image, but there are blood red flowers alongside the pale pink and white, and it is clear that the world around them is crumbling and unforgiving. I hope you found that interesting - I know I'm kind of weird, and I might as well embrace it and actually show some more of the things I do when I spend a lot of time working on artwork and things inspired by my books.
