Erotica 101 - Introduction

I have been mulling this series over since long before I set up this blog, and there are a lot of things I plan on talking about. In this post, I will give an overview of what I hope to achieve and the topics you will find in later installments, and explain why I have decided to write the series at all.

I'll start off by introducing myself, because you can read my introduction here or my about section but I am not going to assume you have done either of those things.

I'm Sara, and I'm a UK-based author.

I have been publishing my work on Dreame for over a year now, and most of my work is rated 18+ on the app.

My first book, Centuries of Sin, was a dark thriller that has erotic content.

It now has more than 10,000 readers. It still features regularly in lists on the app and website - at the time of writing this post it is on a couple of lists such as 'fated love'.

It has been on the front page of "trending" erotica stories for over a month since I remade the cover to market the book as erotica, which I detailed in my series on book cover design , and my commission on Pay to Read is 1665% higher for the first 18 days of May compared to the entirety of April thanks to this. I'm not one of the top-grossing authors on the app but I have a loyal following of people who enjoy my work, and writing is now my primary source of income.

I think that is important to share because the advice I am offering here is not unfounded, and it is based on the things I have learned as a writer and the positive feedback I have received from my readers.

Topics & Future Post Guidelines

The things I want to cover broadly fall into two categories - practical tips/guides for writing mature content, and posts that offer guidance and advice about publishing. There is some crossover between the two topics, so I will try to break things down in a logical way.

I think it is safe to say most posts in this series will be NSFW (not safe for work), and I will use a NSFW tag for the posts which will make it easier to filter them when you are searching the blog.

My next post in the series is going to cover some basic dos and don'ts of the genre. I will use examples from my own work, and I will cover topics which are specific to episodic publishing, such as including content in entries for writing competitions, as well as offering more generic advice and pointers.
