My Morrigan: Part Two

OK, this is definitely a self-indulgent series and it won't have the same appeal as things like my hands Excel stats spreadsheet or my book cover tutorials, but I am really enjoying this project and I want to share it because it is definitely one of the things that I would consider a big part of who I am as an author.

(p.s Centuries is doing a lot better financially without even being put into any lists since I redesigned the cover, and I really should have done that a very long time ago!)

Updates

So, why did I feel a need to post today?

I'm excited, essentially. I am really loving this project, and every time something falls into place with it, I want to shout it from the rooftops.

The big thing that made me decide to post is this:

Holy shit, it's a crossbow!

Yup, a crossbow. It's actually a small-scale replica that is structurally based on an eastern European crossbow from the middle ages, which is held in the Royal Armories in England. So, it's a crossbow which looks like a real crossbow used in eastern Europe during the middle ages... the time and location that Morrigan is set.

It's the same length as my fingertips to the crook of my arm, so it is a lot smaller than the original and while it does fire bolts (which is awesome, and very fun...) it isn't lethal. I wanted Morrigan to have this element of being a 'quick draw' shooter, so for the sake of the book this is the crossbow she uses - it's just more powerful in the book than the replica is. It's something that forms a part of the story, and which is recognizable as being 'Morrigan's Weapon '.

Is that all?

Pretty much. I just got so excited by the crossbow that I had to share it. The wig I'm using arrived yesterday - it's essentially my hair, but white, which probably says a lot about my standards of beauty. I have so far resisted the urge to try it on, because I already feel like I am aging into Grandma Addams, and seeing myself with white hair would definitely not help persuade me I am being paranoid! I'll share more when the actual outfit is done, but I am so happy to hold this little crossbow in my hands and think 'this is Morrigan's crossbow!' that I had to share it somewhere that people might understand.
